Journal 9 & 10

From the beginning class of General English 2, it is quite slow and boring. It is because we did not know what we have to do and our time is always free. During class hour, we always do a reading from the book of ‘The lion and Hibiscus’ from one chapter to one chapter. After few weeks, we have started received the assignments. The assignments are from the first till the last assignment which is from the journal entries as assessment 1, summary as assessment 3, book review as assessment 4 and the last is role play as assessment 5.

For the assessment two we have done it in the class for about 1 and half hour. This assessment is writing a short story about 1000 words. Last Monday, we have to go to the main hall to do a voice projection for the role play that will be done in a few weeks coming. There are a few comments to the students from Madam Yaya for their voice, pronunciation and also their intonation. It is quite interesting and quite nervous whether we manage to do the best for this voice projection practice. Overall, the General Communication 2 class for this semester is quite interesting, challenging, fascinating and also quite motivating.

Compare and contrast the funeral in Islam and Buddhism in reference to Hungry Ghost.

In my knowledge, the funeral ceremony in both religious will be attend almost by the corpse relatives, their neighbor and also closed friends. In both religious there will be a person who will conduct the ceremony from the beginning until the last day the corpse buried.

In Islam, the funeral lasted for seven days. However, in Buddhism, the funeral lasted forty-nine days. In Islam, the corpse family will be visiting by the guest to have a pray to the corpse compare to the Buddhism which is they have a music and they invite a group who play songs and sang at funeral ceremony like at the wedding ceremony.

Choose any ONE element of the stories to compare and contrast between The Interview by Gopal Baratham and Empire of the Sun.

In between these two stories, both are quite same. It is because from the story background, they are being attacked by Japanese and they have to follow Japanese rules and it is quite strict. They have to survive to live under the Japanese.

In contrast, in The Interview, it is the story of a man named Brigadier Mason who has to survive and has to follow the Japanese rules. He knows everything about everything that has happened at that moment. However, in the story of Empire of the Sun it’s all about a boy who desperate from his family and he did not know what has happened on that time. He had to survive by his own feet without his parents around with him.
